# Household sovereignty kit — at the moment of need, not at the moment of crisis

Minutes 0–2 — Landing

You're the daughter, late forties. Your parents are in their late
seventies. The weight of estate paperwork has been arriving in slow
installments — a will reviewed, a power of attorney updated, a
deed re-titled — and the conversations at family dinner have started
ending differently.

The hook on Merkle Trust's landing: the documents exist. The
handoff is what's missing. The substrate makes the handoff happen
at the moment of need, not at the moment of crisis.

This card describes the household-kit pattern. It does not replace
the estate-planning attorney. It makes the attorney's work usable
when it has to be used.

Minutes 2–5 — Picking how you'd evaluate

Four real paths exist. For a multi-generational household kit, the
order is operator-first or GitHub-first depending on the family's
technical comfort.

Subscribe to a regional operator. Family-compliance operator
runs the chain. Parents and children configure their own attestation
surfaces; the operator handles the scaffolding. The path most
households take.

Clone GarrisonNode from GitHub. Self-install on the family's
own home server or laptop. Open source. For households with
technical capacity in-house.

Paste the markdown into your LLM. Lightest path; useful for
the family attorney to evaluate.

Join the mesh. GitHub install plus mesh anchoring with peer
households. The deepest path; appropriate for families coordinating
estate planning across multiple homes.

Minutes 5–14 — The first concrete moment

A sandboxed Merkle Trust loads the synthetic Hernández household
kit: two parents, two adult children, one out-of-state sibling.

The chain holds the documents the family has agreed to seal:
parents' wills (current versions, sealed at notarization), powers
of attorney (financial and medical, separate documents, sealed at
notarization), the living will and advance directive sealed at
signing, the deed to the house jointly held with right of
survivorship, the LLC operating agreement for the small consulting
practice, beneficiary designations for retirement accounts, the
list of accounts and custodians, and the threshold-inheritance
configuration the family chose with their attorney.

The walk takes the see-how-transfer-happens-at-the-moment-of-need
sidebar. Day 0: parents establish the kit with the family attorney.
The threshold-inheritance config is set: upon a death certificate
sealed by the relevant county and confirmed by the executor, the
executor unlocks the relevant documents and the named beneficiaries
gain access to their inheritance allocations.

```
THRESHOLD INHERITANCE — calm sequence
═══════════════════════════════════════════════
trigger: death certificate sealed by
county recorder
+ executor confirmation
unlocks: relevant documents to
named beneficiaries
preserves: privacy of unrelated
documents
pace: the pace the family chose,
not the pace of crisis
At the moment of need.
Not at the moment of crisis.
Minutes 14–20 — "Is this real?"
Every document is sealed at the moment of execution. The will
sealed at notarization, the power of attorney sealed at signing,
the deed sealed at recording. The chain knows what was signed and
when.
The threshold-inheritance config is multi-sig. The executor
alone cannot release the documents; a death certificate sealed by
the county and the executor's confirmation together unlock the
relevant subset. Different beneficiaries unlock different subsets.
The kit does not replace the attorney. The substrate makes the
attorney's work usable at the moment of need. The attorney still
drafts the wills, advises on tax implications, navigates probate.
The substrate is the handoff layer the attorney's work was always
meant to have.
The .md button puts the household-kit pattern summary into your
tag-along bundle, including the threshold-inheritance slab. Comment
field routes a specific estate-planning question to your own
claude.ai session.
Minutes 20–24 — The ceremony moment
Run the household ceremony. Fifteen seconds.
Progress bar reads "done — 47 documents across two generations
sealed, threshold-inheritance configuration verified, new household
anchor at " followed by the first eight hex characters of the
root.
Sealed: "Every document the family has agreed to seal is sealed.
Nothing has been altered since the date of seal. The
threshold-inheritance configuration is current and verifiable."
Minutes 24–30 — The close
The most useful close is to set up the kit for the parents and
take the partner kit for the family attorney. A call to the
out-of-state sibling that evening to walk through the
threshold-inheritance config together.
The package, the cert, the recovery seed — all ride along.
That was the simulated path through the Hernández household kit. The
full card breaks out the threshold-inheritance pattern, the
attorney-as-counselor framing, and a multi-generational-handoff
prediction that's yours to test.
